Overview

Huayna Picchu Mountain is a very interesting destination for travelers from all over the world. To access this place, you will need a specific entrance ticket for Waynapicchu, which also allows entrance to the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu.

This ticket allows you to explore both attractions in a single day. But can one really conquer the steep trails of Huayna and then traverse the Inca Llaqta in a single day?

Huayna Picchu, a mountain located in front of Machu Picchu, offers access via a trail that departs from the citadel.

Highlights

  • Sun Gate: The Sun Gate or Intipunku was the main entrance to Machu Picchu in the time of the Incas. Today, through its walls, visitors who travel the Inca Trail enter the Inca Citadel. However, with the entrance ticket to Machu Picchu, you can visit this attraction. It will take you an average of 2 hours to climb and descend your paths.
  • The Temple of the Sun: It is a sacred place for the Incas. It was made with granite blocks. According to various studies, it must have functioned as an astronomical observatory and place of sun worship.
  • Intihuatana: It is one of the most popular places in the Inca Citadel. It was a solar clock carved on rock that served as an astronomical calendar. It is believed that the ‘Intihuatana’ radiates energy to the visitor.
  • Temple of the Condor: It is a temple built on stone so masterfully that the figure of the condor is distinguished. In the time of the Incas, this animal was one of the deities along with the puma and the serpent.
  • Temple of the three windows: It is a sacred area where 3 trapezoid windows stand out on a polygonal wall. The perfection of the work on stone is proof of the ability of the Incas to manipulate the rock.
  • Main Temple: It is an elaborate enclosure of three walls made of stone. Its walls were made with large carved stones. Its use was religious. The place enjoyed great importance in the days of the Incas.
